Many visit the Schlossberg and its late Gothic Schlosskirche (Castle church). This building, once a Benedictine Abbey, sits at the edge of a lake. There is also the Schlossberg Museum. See the heavily wooded Rabenstein and enjoy the scenery including Oberrabenstein Lake with its beach and outdoor animal enclosure. Chemnitz provides them with the perfect jumping off point for visits to the Renaissance Augustburg Castle, the Baroque-style Lichtenwalde Castle, on the Zschopau River or the late Gothic Kribstein Castle, sitting high above its town. Chemnitz offers visitors the chance to see many of Germany’s fairy tale castles as well as the Oelsnitz Museum and the Daetz Center in Lichlenstein. The Daetz Center is famous for its woodcarvings or sculptures. These include over 700 original and varied pieces. There are also many theatrical events to attend at the Greifensteine Open Air Theater.
