Charles IV, the Czech king and Holy Roman Emperor, built Charles stone bridge, one of the jewels of Gothic architecture. The Charles Bridge replaced the earlier Judith Bridge swept away by a flood.
Originally the house (hotel) towered on the pier of Charles Bridge, was razed after turmoil broke out in Hussite period. The structure was rebuilt due to the arduous effort of Jan Fuchs, a supplier of ostrich feathers, who had the front No.11 of his house decorated with ostriches. Popular belief suggests that a foreign delegation carrying three ostriches as a present for the Emperor spent a night in the house, during the period of Charles IV.

We had a nice big room for the 3 of us. the free wine was also very nice. hotel staff was willing to give us directions when we asked for it. breakfast was good! good selection of warm and cold food. we could even order different types of omeletes and fried eggs. champagne was a nice addition to the breakfast table, although sometimes not quite sufficient as it does not get replenished promptly.Hotel staff could be a little more warm and friendly towards guest. however, prague can get quite rainy so it will be good if the hotel can provide umbrellas for their guests.
