Lafayette Hotel & Swim Club San Diego  

Pros: Free parking and good location.
Cons: Construction still ongoing, wireless internet not working in room, and room much smaller than last time.

Pros: Hotel was better than the reviews said it was.
Cons: The one and only feature i searched was airport transportation. unfortunately when i contacted the hotel directly it had discontinued that service over a year ago. there is no longer a spa either. it has been filled in with concrete.

Pros: I found the newly renovated hotel charming and comfortable and would definitely stay again!! everyone was very friendly and the location is perfect for visiting hillcrest!!
Cons: We were actually charged about 23 bucks more for the room than the website tod us we were going to. i hate surprises and would hope the price they quote in the future would be the price paid.

Pros: As for the room it was nicely painted and the bathroom was nicely tiled and clean. nice carpet and wall paper. bed soft and comfortable.
the red fox restaurant: the food was expensive in the red fox restaurant and could only afford a few of the cheapest entries. but what we did order was excellent and really enjoyed the two meals we had there. the service was equally as good. our servers were very good and friendly. too bad the menu has some real short comings.

Cons:
in general: the hotel location is too off the beaten path from much of what you visit san diego for. the hotel is a restoration work in progress for sure. hotel generally clean but not everywhere. the floor in the breakfast room is un-even and people kept tripping on the floor, including us. the items served at breakfast were ok, but it was the bare minimum.
the room: shower ran hot and cold without touching the facet control. the water temperature wouldn't stay regulated. no paintings on the walls. room was very plain. no bed spread only a top sheet and blanket. we never have seen that in any hotel we stayed at. the mirrored closet doors seemed new but the doors were the wrong size for the closet opening. making the closet almost useless. couldn't get clothing in or out easily. the room it was nicely painted and the bathroom was nicely tiled and clean. except for the curious two single blue tiles in a sea of white at the doorway entrance to the bath?? marred an otherwise nice appearance
the red fox restaurant: is like a dungeon. those 70’s rolled & pleated seats and dark wood décor everywhere needs to be changed. really lousy atmosphere. food prices are excessively high except for a few items. (see positive comments on the restaurant)
the pool area: the tile around the sauna was broken and missing. also only one jet in the tub was working and the water was dirty. the pool surface was looked dirty as well.
the elevators: the buttons on the elevator would not light. never saw that in any hotel. carpet in elevator needs cleaning.

Pros: The staff was helpful.
Cons: Music was very loud in the courtyard, where the pool is. the comforter had a whole. the phone did not work for outgoing calls, but kept ringing once every so often, even during the night.

Cons: Hard to control but when i entered my room there was a roach on the wall near the bathroom. it sort of freaked me out.
