Galadriel Guest House Edinburgh  

We were hosted at Silver King Hotel and we were delighted with the room decor, the service of maintenance and cleanliness of the hotel and the reception service organization.I liked the hotel and recommend to my friends;)

we had booked a room in advance, despite informing owner of arrival time he wasn't sure he had a room avaliable for us. room was clean had a problem with kettle but was sorted quickly beds comfortable location good.

Positives: During my stay Raul (part owner) was friendly and helpful. Bus stop right outside across the road with frequent buses to city centre was good.Negatives: I arrived at Galadriel on the 20th August for 3 nights and was escorted to my room, no 3. The room was old (as was the building) but clean. The bed was hard and uncomfortable (could literally feel each spring) and the bathroom was hideous; clean but miniscule, literally the width of the space required to house the toilet. However, I just sucked it up as I was there for the festival and wasn't going to spend much time in the room, I just needed something functional. Function I hear you ask...? Oh well, the shower didn't work properly.....for 2 days! The first time I tried it was 11pm the first night there, desperate to wash my hair, but it was too late to run downstairs to see what the alternative was, so the hair got tied up and I had a quick freezing cold shower. The next day I brought Raul's attention to the problem. He came to attend to the shower himself immediately (managed to get it to an acceptable temperature, apparently), but as soon I got in, it turned boiling hot, followed by freezing cold....again. After another quick freezing experience (hair still dirty!) I went downstairs to inform Raul the problem wasn't fixed. When I got back that evening I STILL had the same problem. When I spoke to Raul he said he'd called someone who had apparently fix it, but that he "hadn't had the time to check it himself". WTF??I was then moved to room no 11, which had a perfectly working shower ([--]), but a dodgy hair dryer (not a big deal), completely dodgy wifi (not just on phone) and the door didn't lock from the inside (problem for girl on her own!). I paid £225 for the privilege of staying at Galadriel. When checking out I advised Raul that I did not expect to pay this after not having a shower effectively for 2 days. When he asked me what I thought was fair, I said I felt one night's stay should be deducted. The next day I received an email from Raul saying they'll prepare to comp 20% of the bill (about half of what I thought was fair). I wasn't going to argue about it, and on the 26th August I emailed back asking how they plan on getting the refund to me. No reply. I sent a subsequent 2 (polite!) emails asking for a response, and to date have had no response or contact from Galadriel at all. I'll never do it again! (Please also note that there is no breakfast option at all at this guest house)

The worst feature of this guest house.... the hot water or thermost, it was a torture take a shower, the thermost is smaller than a backpack and the water pressure was ridiculous, and the bathroom and the shower was very small.Parking and gardens were careless.The place was clean and the location is near edinburgh center.

Nice personal. Very helpsom. We missed breakfast.Great locations.It was about 20 minutes to walk to the centre and that was ok.

Everything was ok, rooms were clean, friendly personnel.A bit disappointed quality of Wi-Fi Internet - it is good only in the hall on the ground floor.Of course it is not five stars hotel, but taking into account price/quality relation it is nice place for staying for a couple of days.
