Antigua and Barbuda Details

The Leeward Islands of Antigua and Barbuda have much to offer travelers. Year round balmy weather and stunning beaches are just two of the features vacationers will enjoy on these beautiful islands. However, there is so much more to offer tourists than just mere sunbathing. Betty's Hope was the island's first sugar plantation and today features a fully restored sugar mill. It was established in the late 17th century by Sir Christopher Codrington on the island of Barbuda. Birdwatchers will enjoy the incredible Barbuda Frigate Bird Sanctuary on the northwest side of the island. It is situated near a lagoon and can be reached only by boat. Currently it has almost 200 species of birds.

The island of Antigua is more heavily populated than Barbuda. Travelers can island hop by plane or boat. Many visitors flock to the islands during Antigua Sailing Week, as it is known worldwide as one of the best sailing regattas. Along with sailing, the arts are alive and well in Antigua and Barbuda. Nonsuch Bay on the island of Antigua is known for the Harmony Hall Art Gallery, where skilled local artists display and sell their creations.
