Description
The Arena Hotel is a first class hotel, situated in a city monument, in the city centre of Amsterdam. The 127 stylish and comfortable rooms are all equipped with a private bathroom, television and telephone. The rooms at Arena Hotel vary in size and shape and are all decorated in light tones and minimalist chic furnitures. Authentic elements have been combined with warm colours, wooden floors and designer furniture to create a unique atmosphere.
Arena Hotel is the centre of both international and local culture and activity. It was built in 1890 and first used as Roman-Catholic orphanage. Later it became an old age home, and in the 1980's a youth hostel. A number of noted designers participated in the renovation, and the result is a modern but character-full building, Arena Hotel.

The hotel is easily reachable both by car and by public transport. The city centre is well connected by public transport and in the eastern part of Amsterdam you will find the green 'Oosterpark' and the 'Artis' Zoo, which is the oldest zoo in Europe.

How to reach the hotel?By train: From Schiphol Airport, Every 20 minutes there is a train running from the airport to Amsterdam Central Station. When you arrive at the airport and you reach the central hall there is a big sign with the train information. The trains to the central station are running from 05:40 AM to 00:30 AM. From here, please follow the directions below.
By metro: From Amsterdam Central Station, you can take metro nr. 51, 53 and 54 from the square in front of the station to 'Weesperplein'. At the metro station, take exit 'Sarphatistraat' and then take the second street to the right (Korte's Gravesandestraat). Cross the Mauritskade and Hotel Arena is at your left hand side. From there you can walk to the hotel in approximately 9 minutes.
By tram: From Amsterdam Central Station, you can take tram line 9 or 14 to 'Tropenmuseum', line 3 or 10 to 's Gravesandestraat' or line 6 to 'Sarphatistraat'. The hotel is walking distance from these tram stops. The trams in Amsterdam are normally running from: 07:00 AM to 01:00 AM.

I stayed when it was a youth hostel, so the improvements are great!!Arena was my first stop in europe. thought the prices seemed fair. but after traveling for two weeks, realized the prices are not too great. most places include breakfast, even the inexpensive ones. can't beleive this hotel charges 13 euro for an average buffet!!!Stefanos Tsipas

Very friendly staff and an interesting architecture and history to the building, great restaurant very relaxing and good value.The room was very basic, in no way reflecting the images on the website which was very disappointing, the bathroom smelt terribly of the drains, and a nightclub attached to the hotel meant a lot of noise in the surrounding streets at 4am both nights.Anonymous

We ate in the restaurant on one night and the food was good.The room was filthy dirty, there was mould all over the bathroom which was on the ground floor and you had to scale a death defying staircase to get to the bedroom(not good if you have to visit the bathroom in the night) to say the hotel is decorated on a 'minimalist' style is an insult, it just means that there is nothing in the room. i would not stay there again and will not be recommending it to anyone.Julio Hernandez
