Description
Hotel Agora is conveniently located in a renovated canal house which dates back to 1735. The building is situated on the Singel in the centre of Amsterdam, next to the flower market and near the city’s main squares: the Leidseplein, Rembrandtplein and the Dam.
You can find many of the sights that Amsterdam has to offer, such as the Rijksmuseum, the Van Gogh museum, the Amsterdam Hermitage and the Anne Frank House, within walking distance of the hotel.
The hotel is a perfect starting point to enjoy a pleasant evening in the well-known Amsterdam night life or to go shopping in the main shopping streets. From simple to elegant shops, flea markets to antique shops, they can all be easily reached from the hotel.

How to reach the hotel?From Amsterdam Central Station take either tram 1, 2, or 5 and get off at the fourth stop called Koningsplein at the flower market.
HOW TO GET TO THE HOTEL AGORA FROM SCHIPHOL AIRPORT
1. KLM shuttle from the airport to Amsterdam centre
get off at Jolly Carlton Hotel (€ 8.00)
Walk till the other end of the flower market to our hotel (about 600 m.)
2. take the train from Schiphol airport to Amsterdam Central Station (€ 3.00 p.p. or free if you fly KLM), this takes about 20 minutes.
Take from Amsterdam Central Station either
- tram 1, 2, or 5, get off at the fourth stop called Koningsplein at the flower market (€ 1.50) or
- a taxi, which will cost about € 4.50 - € 6.50
3. take a taxi from Schiphol airport to Hotel Agora, this takes about 20/25 minutes and costs about € 31.00 - € 37.00. When taking a taxi: allways mention our address as well. There is another Hotel named Okura. Taxi drivers seem to have difficulties to hear the difference. The difference is € 11.00 which you’ll have to pay.
BY CAR FROM UTRECHT
To get to our hotel follow the A2 highway from Utrecht until the very end.
At the exit of the A2 , in the city, turn right. You are now driving along the Amstel river. This street is called “Amsteldijk”. Keep driving straight ahead until the street comes to a end. At this point you need to make a left onto the street Stadhouderskade.
At the second bridge you make a right.
Directly after this bridge is a round-about. You go straight ahead.
This street is called “Vijzelgracht”.
At the third canal, the Herengracht , you make a left. From this canal take the second street to the right and then at the end of this street again a right.

We had the loft room, it was so cool!!! like a mini apartment. the staff were brilliant, friendly and helpful. they overheard us saying that we were over for my friends birthday, and presented her with a slice of cake at breakfast...he breakfast was also great. would definately stay here again and recommend to anyone.The 6 flights of stairs to our room!!! but that is with any hotel. also this is a budget hotel-the rooms are a bit old-but so so clean so if you are looking for the hilton go there instead!Anonymous

Great location, central to everything.The fact that there was no lift. climbing those stair to get to my room was a trail as i have respertority trouble and that made it unplesent. close the hotel for a while and put in lifts.Anonymous

From arrival to departure the staff were friendly and helpful. location is perfect for central amsterdam. the main high street is less than 5 mins walk away. the bar at the back of the hotel is excellent.Its not a luxuary hotel by any means but the rooms are clean and well equipped (altho a kettle would be nice).Anonymous
