Description
Hotel Crystal is a small friendly hotel, situated on just 3 minutes walking distance from the very famous Leidse Square where you can enjoy variety of restaurants, bars, nights clubs etc.
Hotel Crystal is located on a quiet street in a typical Amsterdam neighbourhood full of local shops, on the edge of the main canal ring area. Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum as well as the very popular Vondel Park (with free concerts and theatre performances during summertime) are within 5 minutes walking distance from the hotel. In the surrounding area you will also find shopping streets that can offer you all kind of shops (from small ones to the biggest shopping malls).
Hotel Crystal has 17 rooms, of which 9 rooms are large double/twin, triple and quad rooms with a private bathroom. The single rooms and some of the double rooms are without a private bathroom. For these basic rooms there are shared facilities on every floor. All rooms have been simply, but comfortably, furnished and the high ceilings give them a spacious feeling. Each room is equipped with a TV set and safety deposit box (free of charge).
Stay in quiet, comfortable rooms a few minutes walking from 'Leidseplein', for a reasonable price, including buffet breakfast and in a friendly atmosphere, and spend what you save on the multiple attractions of Amsterdam.

Hotel Crystal is located on a quiet street on a typical Amsterdam neighbourhood full of local shops, on the edge of the main canal ring area.
The 'Leidseplein' is a few minutes walk away and is one of the main entertainment areas in the city. From the Leidseplein one of the most popular shopping streets goes directly into the heart of the centre with the Flower Market, the Rembrandt Square and Dam Square. From there the Red Light District is just a few steps away, and, in the opposite direction the Jordaan expands with a multitude of small cobblestone streets and picturesque smaller canals.
How to reach the hotel?2) From Amsterdam Central Station: You can take tram 1,2 or 5 from the square in front of the station to the Leidse plein. From there you should walk straight over the bridge towards Marriot hotel. When you cross the bridge turn right and walk along the canal. You will find us in the third street on your left hand side. It takes about 5 minutes to reach the hotel from the Leidse plein. The trams in Amsterdam are normally running from: 07:00 AM to 01:00 AM.

+ friendly staff, breakfast included in the price, and the location is not far from vondelpark and the city centre. two great pizzerias nearby. the shared shower in the corridor was clean and we never had to wait for our turn to shower. in other words, a quiet hotel perfect for couples. the bed was nice, too. 
- if you're overweight, old, or do not like to climb very steep stairs after a night out, consider booking a room on the first floor if possible. the toilet was also very small, which could be a problem for the obese. Greig Mason

Booked a room for 4 people, the room was very spacious and the beds were extremely comfortable. staff were very helpful and friendly. 5 minute walk to transport, very safe area.We were on the 4th floor and the staircase was very steep and a bit of a hard time getting our luggage up there. but still worth the stay.Anonymous

Great location that allows you to see more of the city, just a short walk from dam, museumplein, the heineken museum and the whole area is set up fantastically with trams and busses so it's easy peasy lemon squeezy to get around! The room wasn't amazingly clean and there were a number of stains on the carpet which isn't very pleasant, the toilet leaked incessantly throughout the night and we found a pair of womens lacy knickers under one of the beds . . . they weren't ours!Jaime David Brooks Ruiz

The room was well equiped for three young party people...as you would mostley be there in the evening,the tv was fine,the room was of excellent size for the amount of people it accomodated and the lcation was superb i think that was the most positive thing about the hotel...oh and the receptionist on our arrival(18/1/08 @ about 11am)she was fantastic! Room wasn't cleaned properly,no soap for the bathroom sink!and there was some staff who were very ignorent and not helpful at all,they did not know how to do their job properly,this is something the hotel should consider very carefully,as im sure some customers would not let this slip!! Excellent place to stay for a little cheaper than right in the city centre. only a 2 min tram journey into the heart of amsterdam. great hotel for people not in amsterdam just to lounge about their hotel. great breakfast buffet.Small toilets, but don't let that put you off a great hotel.Anonymous

Great location with an extremely friendly and lovely reception lady. she provided us with all the information required about the sites in amsterdam.Unfortunately the reception lady was the only nice staff memeber. the cleaning lady was exceptionally rude esp. at breakfast time... dissapointing. also, we left a pair of earings in the room and returned the next day to find they were still in her apron "going to hand to reception". also the man maning the desk at night time was asleep on the job so had to ring the bell quite a few times to wake him up!Anonymous

The safe in the room did not work (could not be locked). i only found that out after i checked in and paid for the whole stay as requested. when i brought that to attention of the receptionist, i was told that they had a few safes that did not work. it would be fair in my opinion to inform guests about this fact when they check in. i also feel they should have made an adjustment in price. all the people in the reception were very nice, though.Anonymous

This was my 3rd time coming to amsterdam but my first time staying in leidesplein. i liked staying a little outside the city. it made us use the tram system which i hadn't before and therefore got to see more of the city this time.
great restuarant right opposite the hotel with a fixed menu everyday- fantastic food! -and a very friendly waitress. it was less touristy than others we had been to and we loved the atmosphere.
the staff at the hotel crystal(with the exception of one man) were very friendly and met all of our needs and enquiries with a smile. good toilet facilities in the room and really comfy beds! make sure if you can to get a room with shower etc en suite. the communal showers seemed fine very spacious and others were using them but the toilets were tiny! your knees are basically touching the wall in front of you. new towels arrived in the room everyday which was nice. also, the directions given to find the hotel were spot on. it is easy to find. we did come into central station and get into a taxi to be told the hotel was only a 5 minute walk which is not the case. the taxi driver didn't seem familiar with the location of hotels. i think he got mixed up with streets names or something- helmerstraat being the correct one. but as i said before it did make us get the finger out and use the trams straight off the bat.
overall we did enjoy our stay but would probably stay somewhere else on returning due to it being a little pricey.The staff on the whole were friendly but one man, (short, short black hair, leather waistcoat and glasses), was very unfriendly and not at all accomodating. we asked if it was possible for him to get a phone number of a restuarant we'd heard about and he was less than pleased about that. seemed very put out by it and this unfortunately was our first experience of the staff at this hotel. this was also just after handing over €600 to him! not a nice experinence. we later asked a lovely lady on the desk and she, without hesitation said it would be no problem and left the number for us on our return. what a big deal over such a small request.
the toilet was very smelly when we arrived. all it would have taken was to leave the door of the en suite open and the window in the room to air it out for the next guests. it was very pongy. the stairs are seriously steep but once you get used to them it's fine.
the only other thing was the beds. although they were like sleeping on marshmallows- very comfy! we were getting away for a romantic holiday and the hotel doesn't have double beds. so basically you're sleeping miles apart and it's just not the ticket for a couple. you wouldn't think this was a big thing but it really got on our nerves and this would be the main reason for not staying in the hotel on our return. they slide apart and it was anoying. perfect for singles though!David Greenwell
