Description
Hotel de Filosoof is a unique 3-star hotel with 38 rooms decorated in different philosophical and cultural themes. The hotel is located in a beautiful and quiet neighbourhood next to the Vondelpark and within walking distance from the museums and city centre.
The 'Vondelpark' is ideal for relaxation and you can also take a stroll through the park to the 'Leidseplein' with its bars, restaurants and shops. The sophisticated 'P.C. Hooftstraat' (shopping street) and the 'Concertgebouw' are within close range as well.
All rooms have private facilities, a TV, telephone and free WIFI Internet access. The rooms are divided over three small buildings right across the street from each other.
The hotel has a cosy bar/lobby, library, elevator (in the main building only), a spacious beautiful garden to relax in and 2 multifunctional rooms for 2 to 30 people where you can have a private or business meeting in an exceptional atmosphere.

How to reach the hotel?1) From SCHIPHOL AIRPORT: Every 20 minutes there is a train running from the Airport to Central Station. When you arrive at the airport and you reach the central hall there is a big sign with the train information. The trains to the Central station are running from 05:40 AM to 00:30 AM (go to step 2)
2) From CENTRAL STATION: You can take tram: 1 from the square in front of the station to the Jan Pieter Heijestraat/overtoom. From there you can walk to the hotel +/- 4 min. the trams in Amsterdam are running normaly from: 07:00 AM to 01:00 AM

It is a nice small hotel. the atmosphere is good and quiet. the staff is kind. the rooms are not that big but original decorated. every room is named after a famous philosopher and has some citations on the wall and books about him or her on the shelf.Anonymous

Easy check in and check out. the philosophy theme is interesting. warm room.Breakfast service was not great. tables were left uncleared and we had to wait a long time for coffee. in the end we had to go to the kitchen and ask for it ourselves. only 2 staff on breakfast service, they needed 3. the walls of room 132 need repainting, especially above the bed. tap water was nowhere near hot enough for shaving. in my opinion, over priced. 2 star rather than 3 star room.Anonymous

The hotel was 10 minutes walk from the lively part of the city, so it was quite peaceful. it backed onto vondelpark, which was lovely.
the room was very big & the bed was one of the most comfortable i've ever slept in.It was just off the main road, so got a little noisy at times with cars sounding their horns, but it wasn't noisy enough to stop us returning to the hotel.Bojan Sosic

Very original; an intelectually refreshing experience compared to just getting food and accommodation what one usually gets in hotels. rooms being dedicated to different philosophers is a very non-intrusive way of offering you something to learn as well.DOUAILLER

The staff were very helpful and welcoming. they helped and guided us to were we wanted to go. the breakfast was fantastic comparing to the price. the room was larger than what i have expected. they checked us in at 07:30 a.m. which was very good as we had some rest and had enough time to tour the city. the location is excellent as it is close to the tram station and the city centre, still the location is quite and relaxing. if you are booked in the third floor don't take large suit cases. stick with backpacks as you will be climbing a steep stair case.The internet connection is not free.Anonymous
