Description
Hotel de Lantaerne Amsterdam is a nice and comfortable hotel located within walking distance of the Leidseplein. It is the ideal starting place for your visit to Amsterdam and on walking distance of the red light district, Dam square, the Royal Palace, shopping areas, nightlife, canals, museums, the opera's and a lots more.
The hotel offers free coffee and tea at the lobby of the hotel as well as free travel and tourist guides of Amsterdam to find your way around. The staff of the hotel speak English, Dutch, German, Chinese, Turkish and Spanish.
Hotel de Lantaerne has 28 different rooms. Most of them are with a canal view. All the rooms are provided with private facilities and a television.
The Hotel has a main building and a dependence, located on the Leidsegracht 111 and Leidsgracht 117, just a few steps away from each other. The rooms will be assigned between the two buildings upon availability.

How to reach the hotel?From Schiphol Airport to Hotel de Lantaerne you can take a taxi, our address is Leidsegracht 111 in Amsterdam centre, approximate price is €35.00 and duration is about 20 minutes.
By public transport; take the train from the airport to Amsterdam central station, from here please take tram 1, 2 or 5 and get out at the stop “Leidseplein”. From here walk into the street called Marnixstraat on your right and turn right again just before the first canal. Here you will find our hotel.

The beds and bedsheets were clean and bathrooms were very clean/new facilitiesHad to be moved rooms as room number 38 had a broken lock, the hotel staff were aware of this but still put my father in that room. when we brought it to the staffs attention that the door could not be opened they gave another room, although reluctantly.
there is no lift in this hotel, however this is often the case in amsterdam. older people who can not manage stairs should consider another hotel.Anonymous

Great location aan de leidse gracht, easy to explore most of central amsterdam on foot.Small room in need of a facelift, and we were 3 high, steep and narrow stairs...but hey that's to be expected from these type of old merchant houses...so you could say it's part of it's charm and it's a free workout too !Jamie T Tevendale

The hotel staff are friendly and helpful. the location of the hotel's location is very good... and very accessible with public transport.There is no lift in the hotel and the stairs are very narrow and steep. not recommended for the not so fit.
the room is very small and adequately decorated. the toilet's drain is very slow. the light bulb's switch over the vanity mirror by the sink is rather exposed and looked a bit too dangerous to touch. Anonymous

Informative, friendly staff. good location for travel links. one of the cheaper hotels i found online. 24 hour reception. internet available on location, definate towel change everyday, free security box.Room can get cold through either lack of heating or draught from gaps in window frame. breakfast wasn't great, the stairs are a nightmare especially if u have a lot of luggage, and are on a high floor. inconvenience of having to ring the bell every time you return to the hotel. i also did not like the bathroom set up in my single room, the shower was practically hanging over the toilet.Rebecca Stevens

The bedsheets and bathroom were clean. i'm afraid it was not a good experience. the door to my room did not lock. there were bare electrical wires sticking out of the wall and a loose electrical cable in the corner by the bed. the room was very cold(despite the radiator being on) and i had to wear my winter weight jacket to bed.the bed was far too hard as was the pillow. i did not sleep due to the cold and because of the lack of security. my room was next to the fire exit and as there were vending machines outside my door there was a lot of traffic and noise. the shower was cold (8.00am)and the breakfast of a very poor quality: nowhere near the usual high standards of dutch hospitality. i cancelled the rest of my reservation,paying 75 euros in cash for that 1 night. i didn't pay a penalty for cancellation and the manager seemed ok with this: i have the feeling this situation has arisen before. i would not recommend this hotel to anyone. it may be ok for young men but certainly not female solo travellers. it took me four and a half hours to find another hotel. this one was a 2 star (like the de lantaerne)but far superior and at 55 euros a night, far better value.
