The hotel is situated in the Plantage, a 19th century residential area with dignified buildings and much greenery. The University of Amsterdam, the Maritime Museum, Rembrandt House, Artis Zoo, the Waterlooplein Flea Market and the Botanical garden are just a few of the many sights in the vicinity. Rembrandtplein is the perfect place to start a night on the town, and is only a ten-minute walk from the hotel.
Description
Hotel Rembrandt is a Non-Smoking hotel and is situated in the Plantage, a 19th century residential area with dignified buildings and much greenery. The University of Amsterdam, the Maritime Museum, Rembrandt House, Artis Zoo, the Waterlooplein Flea Market and the Botanical garden are just a few of the many sights in the vicinity. Rembrandtplein is the perfect place to start a night on the town, and is only a ten-minute walk from the hotel. The hotel has 17 different rooms, which all feature private facilities, cable TV, Pay TV, telephone, hairdryer, a coffee/tea-maker, WiFi and mini bar. Also, the hotel has one room with a life-size copy on canvas of Rembrandt's most famous painting "The Nightwatch" as well as a room with an infrared sauna. The hotel has a beautiful antique breakfast room and a small international library with a lobby PC.

*How do I get to the Hotel Rembrandt by public transport?

1) From SCHIPHOL AIRPORT:

By public transport: Every 20 minutes there is a train running from the Airport to Central Station. When you arrive at the airport and you reach the central hall there is a big sign with the train information. The trains to the Central station are running from 05:40 AM to 00:30 AM (go to step 2)

By car: Take the ringroad Amsterdam direction of Zaandam -> exit S116 (Volendam - Noord-Centrum) -> through the Y-tunnel -> 1st exit left -> at the traffic lights turn left.

By taxi: +/-EURO 40 from Schiphol Airport


2) From CENTRAL STATION:

By metro: You can take metro: 51 and 54 from the square in front of the station to the Waterlooplein. From there you can walk to the hotel +/- 9 min. the trams in Amsterdam are running normaly from: 07:00 AM to 01:00 AM.

By tram: At Amsterdam Central Station, you can take tram 9 to the Artis (Zoo).

Booking was handled efficiently. staff helpful. discount given without asking for faulty light.
Appearance is a little shabby. rooms could do with a lick of paint. bathroom overhead lights not working throughout stay.

The hotel had nice features, easy to reach by metro or tram, in a lovely neighbourhood. i liked the fact that it was slightly out of the centre, two stops on the metro and your right in the thick of things, but two stops away if you like somewhere quiet to sleep. the only down side i would mention to an older visiter is to make sure that you book a room no higher than the first floor. as with a few older houses that are now hotels in amsterdam, no lift! other than that i would definately recommend the hotel rembrant.

Location, breakfast.
The hotel needs to pay a little more attention to its plumbing and linen. in the first room we had the plumbing was not in working order and desk staff showed absolutely no concern (in fact, one staff member was downright rude). we did get a second room which was much better, but it took negotiation, which shouldn't be the case. staff in general acted adequately, but could use some instruction in being a little more outgoing and friendly. we also tried to stay at the hotel at a later date and despite promises at the time of departure email communication did not result in a room in the end. the impression left was that the first priority of hotel management is filling rooms, not accomodating travelers.
