The hotel is situated in a beautiful residential area in the bustling heart of Amsterdam, next to the Vondelpark.
Museum Square (Rijksmuseum, Van Gogh Museum, Stedelijk Museum of modern art), the Concertgebouw and the P.C. Hooftstraat, where you will find the most exclusive shops of Amsterdam, are all within easy reach. The famous Leidseplein with its lively restaurants, bars, cafés and theatres is in the immediate vicinity.
How to reach the hotel?2) From Amsterdam Central Station: You can take tram 1, 2 or 5 from the square in front of the station to 'Leidseplein'. From there you can walk to the hotel in approximately 5 minutes. The trams in Amsterdam are normally running from: 07:00 AM to 01:00 AM. The costs are around 2.60 Euro per person and you can buy tickets at the conductor in the back of the tram. On the Leidseplein you see two big hotels, the 'Marriott' and the 'NH Amsterdam Centre Hotel’ in between you'll find the Vondelstraat.
By taxi: From the airport you can take a taxi to the hotel. You will find a taxi stand in front of the arrival hall. The costs are approximately 45 Euros and you will be in Hotel Vondel within 20 minutes. You can also contact the hotel, they can arrange a business taxi for Euro 35.00 one way, this is a fixed price and the driver will pick you up in the arrival hall. From Amsterdam Central Station you can also take a taxi to the hotel and the costs are approximately 15 Euros.
By car: From A2 Utrecht: Coming from the A2, turn right at the first set of traffic-lights after the 'Utrechtsebrug' and follow the 'Amsteldijk' along the 'Amstel Canal'. Drive until you get to the T-crossing. Here you turn left the 'Stadhouderskade'. Pass three bridges. Turn left just before the 'Leidseplein', this is the 'Tesselschadestraat'. Directly on your left is the 'Byzantium Garage' where you can park your car. After the bend (right-hand side), you'll see Hotel Vondel Amsterdam Centre in the Vondelstraat 28.
From A4 Schiphol Airport/The Hague or Haarlem: Coming from the A4 (E10) or from the N5, you take the S-106 exit in Amsterdam. At the end of the exit, turn right. Continue straight on the roundabout 'Surinameplein'. You now pass the bridge and take a left turn and you are on the 'Overtoom'. At the end of the 'Overtoom', turn right and take the second street on the right, the 'Tesselschadestraat'. See for further directions the description under Utrecht.

The room was small but no more than other places i stayed in europe. the staff at the hotel were wonderful- friendly and helpful- especially the restaurant/bar staff. i was travelling alone in that city and felt very at home there. i plan to visit again with friends and will stay there again!Anonymous

Great location on a reasonably quiet street, friendly staff.Stairs are very steep - not a real problem as elevators are available. breakfast buffet was a little disappointing for the 20 euro price - but hotel breakfast buffets are generally expensive. "double" room had two single beds pushed together - don't know how many rooms are like that, and not a problem as it was only me in the room.Anonymous

Upon arrival we were advised of building work being carried out. the work should not have started until after nine but on 2 days it started at 7.30am. in the bathroom the air vent fell off and they werent connected anyway. there wasn't a mirror by the desk only in cupboard so difficult to get ready- ie dry hair etc as the bathroom mirrors all steamed up and cupboard mirror closed on you.Anonymous

The hotel is well situated, close to museums and sites but on a quiet side street. the room was comfortable and well appointed - beautiful new bathroom. the staff were very helpful, particularly when i blew an electrical fuse in our room. oops!Our room was on the fifth floor by very noisy elevator mechanics. we were offered another room but were forewarned that we would like hear construction noise on the lower floors where we would have to go, so we stuck it out. it was an otherwise perfect experience.Anonymous

Hotel vondel is a stylish hotel set just south of amsterdam city centre, but easily walkable to the old centre and just 5 minutes stroll to the ricksmuseum. the area (imagine kensington in london) is a lovely contrast to the old centre of amsterdam. the hotel itself is stylish with a couple of lovely lobby rooms and a great bar & restaurant. the staff were professional and polite throughout my whole stay. the bedroom i stayd in was great - comfy bed and good facilities including a wonderful bathroom.The only drawback (and sadly it could be quite a big one) is that the walls between the rooms are very thin to say the least! one my first night i could here the guest in the room next door having a conversation on his telephone as clearly as if he was in the same room.Anonymous

The food was pretty good, although a little overpriced for what it was- 20 eur for a main.
the room was very nicely furnished and the bed very comfortable.Renovations were happening during my stay and i was first given a room of which the bathroom was incomplete. however, i received a new hotel room promptly.
a female staff in the hotel restaurant was very unattentive and even rude when being asked "excuse me, i just have a question" she just responded with "i'm busy" and let us wait for a while after that.

I found the decor very nice and did enjoy my stay.There were renovations going on at the hotel that neither the hotel or easybook mentioned to us. in future i would prefer to know so i could change hotel. it also took the hotel an hour after check in time to give us a room.Miss D Bird

Despite the fact that easytobook.com informed us that no money would be taken in payment from our account, £74.64 was taken the day before we arrived at the hotel meaning that our budget for the trip was affected. we have not yet received the money back into the account althought the bank tell us it is pending. if we had been informed that this would happen we would have been able to account for this in the money we were taking with us. i would like an explanation of why this we were not informed that this would happen. Had a nice stay have stayed with you before and have been telling people how nice your hotel is Just the building work so we couldnt use the lift and had to walk up and down the stairs (couldn't have stayed there for a week with it being like that) but it was ok as we only stayed the nightDpeacock@bluebottle.com
