This two-star family hotel is situated opposite the beautiful Sarphatipark in the very centre of Amsterdam, just a five minutes walking distance away from the famous canals with their ancient houses.
This part of the centre has many inexpensive bars and restaurants and also a large shopping centre which will please the budget shopper. 1) From Schiphol Airport: Every 20 minutes there is a train running from the Airport to Central Station. When you arrive at the airport and you reach the central hall there is a big sign with the train information. The trains to the Central station are running from 05:40 AM to 00:30 AM (go to step 2).
2) From Central Station: At Central Station take tram (streetcar) nr. 25 to 'Sarphatipark'. The trams in Amsterdam are normally running from: 07:00 AM to 01:00 AM.
3) By car: From the highway A2 go straight into the “Rijnstraat”, this street changes into “van Wouwstraat”. At the first big intersection you turn left into the “Ceintuurbaan”. After about 250 meters you will find Sarphati Hotel on your left hand side, opposite the Sarphatipark.

The staff were really delightful and very helpful.we stayed in one room 1st night which was an internal room and somewhat small but 2nd two nights in the garden room which was bigger,brighter better all round. both rooms very clean. hotel right by a tram stop but little noise from this, just really handy. 20 min walk to centre of amsterdam but good to be a little further out from the crowds. excellent breakfast, various breads, jams, cereal, fruit, limitless oj and coffee. small, friendly, clean. happy to go there again. 
Coffee machine was a bit eccentric. needed to wait for water to fill up and heat for ages.probably need to up-grade to the next size up to cope with number of guests.Lewkowitz

Breakfast was very good, there was plent of choice. the staff were all very helpful when asked for directions, advice etc. the hotel is in a great location, there is a tram stop right outside to get you into town. there is also however much to do in the area surrounding the hotel, there are many shops and restaurants, sarphati park is also a great place to relax if the eather is good.It would have been helpful if we were able to arrange a late checkout as our return flights were not until late in the evening. the hotel did however allow us to leave our suitcases with them.Anonymous

The owner was very helpful, friendly. staff was efficient and unobtrusive. breakfast was good room, room was clean, beds were comfortable. no complaings.There was a surcharge of 4% for using a credit card to pay for room. when i pointed out that when i booked online, the price was inclusive & i had used a credit card to reserve and there was no mention of a surcharge in the rates, then they waived the 4%, but if i hadn't argued, i would have been charged the extra.Lara Junior

The location was great, just beside a tram stop, that takes you to cetraal station! also near a nice area with wine/tapas bars. 20 mins walk to rld!Hotel was small, and rooms a little crampt. but if your using the hotel for a base to sleep and breakfast, and all your days are out exploring this hotel is fine!West

Very nice place to stay. gleaming bathroom, clean towels and bed sheets. everything worked: tv control, safe etc. nice balcony. they clean the bedroom every day: new towels, soap, shampoo etc. Location is 40 minutes walk from city center. but 10 minutes by tram. very steep stairs.Anonymous

Staff were vey helpful and welcoming. the hotel is very clean and maintained to a high standard. nice to have private access to a garden. breakfast times were good, not too early and the selection of food was excellent. i would stay at the sarpharti hotel again and recommend it to family and friends. Breakfast was very good, not just coffee and toast.As it is an old residential building transformed to hotel, rooms are not sound-proofed. ear plugs needed for a good night sleep. the staircase is very steep, so not suitable of everybody.Anonymous

We booked into this hotel with two young children and immediately knew we had made a mistake. the sarphati hotel is a 2 star hotel and provides only the most basic of services. the rooms were clean but were more "hostel" like than "hotel". there are 3 floors with very steep stairs and there is no elevator. you cannot make phonecalls from your room. however, the staff were friendly and accommodating and upon seeing that we could not manage in this hotel with 2 babies allowed us to check out with a full refund for unsed nights. this was very generous of them since they were within their rights to charge us at least a nights extra accomodation. they serve a good breakfast and the location is excellent.The sarphati is a bit overpriced for what you get. i would not describe it as a hotel but more like a hostel. do not book here if you have young children.Anonymous

Clean and friendly. we had the room with a garden attached so we could sit outside. The breakfast was not worth waking up in time for, it was just ham and cheese with bread. the bathrooms are wet rooms and they flood if you stay in the shower too long. directions we were given were not clear took us a while to find it.Anonymous

It was cleanThe picture impression on the internet was nothing like the hotel room at all. the bathroom had the most ridiculous lay out i have experienced which meant the toilet area was constanly flooded from the shower. basic would be an understatement. the "double bed" was 2 single beds put together. and the staff seeemed to be uninterested in any form of customer service. the breakfast was poor also! all in all pick another hotel, its way out of the center too!!Anonymous

hotel was really clean. even though our room was basic it was very good basic. location was good. close to everything but not right in the centre so it was quiet at night times and in a safe location. The cost was higher than we originally thought - because you pay in euros on the day you arrive you pay the exchange rate then. it makes booking a bit misleading. the euro is bad against the pound now. i would rather a choice. The staff was very helpful, warm and accommodating. the room was very clean particularly the sheets and towels. breakfast was great! the metro stop is just a couple of mins walk from the hotel and so going to the city center is so easy. we loved the fact that the hotel is located in a quiet neighborhood, having the park just across the street and the restaurant areas just few minutes walk from the hotel.The only difficult part was taking a shower as there is not enough glass material to keep the water from splashing the whole bathroom floor. sound proofing can also help a bit specially if your room is located close to the reception area.Simon Pellew

Better than expected for a 2 star. very good location - buzzy area of amsterdam. clean room, comfortable beds, good breakfast.Two minor points - bathroom was very narrow - made bending over basin to shave a bit tricky, and the receptionist didn't know any of the local restaurants.Anonymous
