Description
The Townhouse Hotel, is a typical small monumental canal house located right in the heart of the central canal district of Amsterdam, the hotel’s superb location offers very easy access to all the city’s attractions, while surrounded by tree-lined canals and small cobblestone streets for those romantic walks. The Townhouse Hotel building date back from 1689. To add comfort for the modern traveller we have just renovated and decorated the hotel in the winter of 2006.
The hotel offers rooms with views over the canal, upon availability, comfortable beds and a warm atmosphere. We have rooms with private shower and shared shower.
Other facilities in each room are a sink, coffee and tea facilities, safety box, Cable TV, Hairdryer and Free Lan internet connection.
All rooms are sharing the toilets, which are cleaned many times a day.
The Hotel provides FREE INTERNET connection. The hotel does not serve breakfast, but around the corner in the Utrechtsestraat there you will find many breakfast restaurants. There is no elevator.
We want to provide our guests with a comfortable, safe and unforgettable stay, we hope you will feel at home.

Generally, the hotel is very small and has dirty/smelly carpet. hot shower and hair dryer in the room were broken. no repair/replacement throughout my 5 days stay in that hotel. not recommended. Anonymous

very helpful reception staff.
smooth check-in, convenient check-out.- lock on front door was difficult to open
- coffee/tea making didn't have milk, wasn't re-stocked before our arrival.
- shared toilet was dirty & lock jammed on two occasions.
- our shower (which cost extra) didn't drain well and you had to hold the nozzle in your hand at all times.
- heating was unbearably hot upon arrival, took hours to cool down (as the windows don't open).
- walls were very thin, we could hear everyone (particularly some other visitors' drunken singing & staggering up the steep stairs throughout the night).Anthony Chart

Our contact with the staff of the hotel, via telephone or in person, was very pleasant, personable and friendly.
the accommodations were as advertised and we found no surprises. rooms were clean, with clean linen and bedding, and the toilet and shower were small, but tidy and clean.
the location is very near a major tram line, and getting to the central station is possible without a transfer. it's also favorably located for those who don't mind walking and want to see the museumsplein district and the less touristy areas inside the centrum. we found many very good restaurants within five minutes distance and all manner and assortment of shops.
the location is also relatively quiet because of its primarily residential location.Inside smoking, which will be banned on 1 july, 2008, was a minor annoyance, but tolerable.
the wall in room 8 had painted over graffiti that was still showing through, something probably recent.
the stairs are as advertised: steep, so be careful going up and down.Mr Gary Wardle

The surrounding, with the canal just beside and the center of amsterdam very closeThe website told us that 3 rooms shared a toilet but on the 3. and 4. floor 6 rooms shared only one toilet - missing toiletpaper ! we didn,t have the room we were promised and i can proove that by mails from the hotel. we had a much smaller room than a twin basic room as we payed for. they didn't tell us that our room was on the 4th floor, we were promised 1st floor, until the day befor arrival.
