For a touch of the macabre and a glimpse into the past the Cementerio de la Recoleta is the place to visit. This area is a great example of the common cemetery style from the late 1800’s and into the early 1900’s. The cemetery started as a modest church graveyard before it was open to the public in 1882. Many of the tombs and crypts are above ground constructed from materials that were imported from European countries such as France and Italy. The entire cemetery is fascinating and even a bit creepy.
