St James Church is the oldest church in Sydney and is a significant historical and cultural landmark. Constructed in 1824 the church has continued to be a focal point of worship in Sydney and surrounding areas. Francis Greenway designed the church which sits opposite Hyde Park Barracks. The original purpose of the St James Church was a courthouse but was later changed before construction on the building actually started.
