My review would have been much more positive had I been allocated any room other than #208. The night I checked in I was nearly knocked down by the odour!Not a "dead" smell but one of staleness,mustiness -- leading me to ask one of the staff if this was always the last room assigned, and stood empty most of the time.After a week of my attacking it with air fresheners the room had a musty sickly-sweet odour.The room was clean;there was no discernible reason for the smell.They don't advertise pay TV (or any TV) so maybe this is out of line,but other stays I've had there --- this is stay #4 -- the TV usually picked up a few pay channels -- with a bit of tweaking.The reception in this room is so poor that it only receives one or two free channels -- very poorly.Staff usuallly good > excellent; location is excellent (main reason); even allowing for this experience the place is much cleaner than Maze Backpackers, albeit more expensive.This would be due to slightly different clientele.I would stay there again as long as I wasn't allocated room # 208. 204 is excellent (space and view). I would recommend the place to anyone whose budget was limited and who had at least a reasonable level of fitness -- the stairs will kill you! Not for the elderly or infirm.
