The area of Lower Austria has many springs. Baden bei Wien has some 14 or 15. These hot springs were responsible for turning it into a famous spa town during the 16th century. The individuals, who came to Baden after Czar Peter the Great of Russia arrived, increased the popularity of the town. Even Emperor Karl I, the last of the Hapsburg rulers, stayed here. It became very fashionable to go to Baden for the summer cure.

Today, several spas operate in Baden. One of them is the Badener Kurzentrum. This “Cure Center” obtains its water supply from the same Roman springs as the original spas. The spa utilizes the sulphurous water for hot baths. You can also indulge in a mud bath. You can even take the water in orally by drinking cups of it. Be careful. The temperature of the water may be as high as 98 degrees Fahrenheit.
