The Kurpark is a delightful place to spend a summer’s day. You can wander the many hiking trails or stroll along the flowered paths. There are benches upon which to rest. There are statues to admire. There are also, theater and concert performances to attend. Within the park, you will find yourself sitting down and enjoying a play or a concert at the Sommerarena.

The Sommerarena – Summer Arena, began within the park as a very basic wooden structure in 1841. There were four walls, but no roof. This limited performances to fair weather days. In 1905, this changed. The city Council endorsed a plan to build a more permanent type of structure. They hired Rudolph Krausz. He created a simple building with a cast-iron frame and a roof. This allowed performances to continue in spite of rainy days. The theater/arena has been in operation almost continually since that date. Only the eruption of WW II interfered. Today, you can catch an operetta or a concert, while resting under the nearby trees. If it rains, simply dash under the cover of this structure’s unique retractable glass roof
