Attending the theatre in another country can be very exciting. It gives you a chance to catch the culture of another country. In Baden bei Wien, the oldest city theatre is yours to visit. It is the Stadthttheater on Theaterplatz.

The Staddttheater dates back to 1716. The second incarnation however, rose on the current site in 1812. It began its new life under the name of Das Hoftheater an der Schwechat. The architect was Josef Kornhaeusel (1786-1860). He was responsible for the town’s almost uniform neo-Classical and Biedermier style of architecture. In 1909, the theatre once again adopted to the changing architectural styles. The Kaiser Jubiläums Stadttheater is the work of two famous Viennese architects: Ferdinand Fellner (1847-1916) and Hermann Hellmer (1849-1919). They specialized in theaters and palaces. The theater opened on September 2nd, 1909 with a performance of Grillparzer's "König Ottokars Glück und Ende" and Johann Strauß's "Die Fledermaus". Today, you can catch the Operetten Metropole Baden performing operettas and light comedies including work by Andrew Lloyd Weber.
