Austria is fond of many composers. Mozart is one of the favorites in this country. Schubert is another. Beethoven however, is also prominent. In Baden bei Wien, sometimes called Baden, you can visit his home. Beethoven came to Baden 15 times during his lifetime. He spent three of those times renting three rooms in a house on Rathausgasse. He wandered around Baden in the 19th century, gaining the reputation of an eccentric. Beethoven’s house in Baden is a museum or a memorial to his life. In this house, he began work upon his famous “Ninth Symphony” in 1822. Within these walls, he completed composing Kühl nicht lau"and "Zur Weihe des Hauses" on behalf of his good friend Friedrich Kuhlau. He also worked on “Missa Solemnis” and several canons including "Gedenket heute and Baden" and "O Tobias

Beethoven received such renowned guests as Carl Maria Weber, the composer in 1823. The Beethoven Schauräume also contains displays on other Badenites of note.
