The building housing the Rollett Museum is not out of the norm. It is in the Neo-Renaissance style dating from 1905. The structure was the town hall for Weikersdorf for seven years – the time it took Baden to absorb it. Today, it houses an unusual collection. There is the usual material on prehistory, and Greek and Roman civilizations. The museum also looks at the topography and geology of Baden and contains the local archives. Yet, the museum contains scraps of materials from Joseph von Doblhoff’s gradn tour in the 19th century and, more fascinating, a wide assortment of bones and skulls; busts and brains, originals and plaster casts from the collection of Joseph Gall, the founder of phrenology. There is a wax model of Marie Antoinette’s hand and a plaster cast of Goethe’s hand. It is a fascinating place to visit if your interests are a little macabre.
