Feldkirch is the former district capital of Vararlberg in western Austria, on the border of Liechtenstein. The River Ill rushes through a rocky gorge and down into the Rhine Valley surrounded by immense cliffs and green forest, creating a lovely scenic view from the hotels in Feldkirch. The Castle Schattenburg, built in the 12th century, is the original building around which the town was formed and a popular tourist attraction today with its Heimat (House) Museum. Around it, the old city walls still contain the tower of Katzenturm.
Many Feldkirch hotels available on EasyToBook.com are located around the town’s center piazza, bordered on one side by the lovely Johanniskirche Church and home to a weekly Saturday market, often with entertainment. The architecture here is truly spectacular and even the Town Hall has a series of beautiful murals painted along its side, as do many of the buildings along the piazza. The restored City Cathedral, the former Jesuit university building of the Landes Conservatory, and the classic Austrian gatehouse, the Churertor, are amongst the best examples of local architecture.
