Visiting a city can be stressful. The wandering around from sight to sight and monument to monument can be tiring. Even shopping can wear down a person’s energy level. Sometimes, it is nice to escape all the hustle and bustle of a large city. In Graz, you can always go off to the botanical Gardens. Here, you can set a different pace in a peaceful world of flowers.

The Botanical Gardens are part of the Botany Department of the Karl-Franzen University in Graz. The project began in 1995. The result is three greenhouses made in glass according to the design of Volker Giencke. These are not the regular acrylic glass structures. They are futuristic in design and irregular in shape. Within these oddly shaped structures are four different climate-zoned based worlds of greenery. You can wander through the Mediterranean vegetation in the cold house or orchids in the warm, tropical plant. These greenhouses provide you with a climate and a world of plants from many different countries. Take a trip to South America, Austriali and North America without leaving the greenhouses. Once inside, simply follow the wooden bridges and paths through the green and colorful worlds.
