The Parish Church or Stadfarrkirche in Graz dates from the 16th century. It is worth a visit if you happen to be in the city and wander near Herrengrasse. The church is the common blend of different architectural elements. It is the result of the original style meeting the forces of change in architectural preference and the urge for modernization.

The façade of the church is Baroque. The spire dates from the 18th century. Inside, you cannot ignore the beauty of the Assumption of the Virgin that decorates the altar. It is obviously by a master, in this case, Tintoretto. Yet, what many tourists come to see is not the Tintoretto. They are here to see a slight commentary on the War in the stained glass windows. These glass art works fall into the post war period. The artist is from Salzburg. He is Albert Birkle. If you look carefully at one of the small panels above the altar and to the left, you will see an interesting portrayal of the scourging of Christ. In the crowd surrounding the event are two figure – one is of Benito Mussolini, the other is of Adolph Hitler.
