The Renaissance building, the Landhaus is the home of the Styrian Provincial Parliament. It is the creation of Domenic dell’Allio, an Italian military architect. The stairs on the north side, however, are not his responsibility. They are the work of Bartolomeo di Bosio, another Italian. The two architects provide the Landhaus with its unique Italian Venetian Renaissance look.

You can easily ascertain the Italian or Venetian character by the presence and character of the double loggia and the arched windows at the front. The arcaded courtyard continues the Italian design with its arcades. Gaze up at all three storeys of balustraded galleries. The hanging protective gargoyles are 16th century. The interior, however, is Baroque. It features beautiful stucco ceiling work by Johann Angelo Fromentini. The Landtag or conference Hall has beautifully carved doors. Above them are allegorical scenes. Two other rooms are noteworthy. They are the Landhaus Chapel (1630-1631) with its gold and black altar and the Rittersaal. The altar features a ceiling fresco based on the Zodiac signs.
