The Town Hall in Graz, the Rathaus, is the newest kid on its block. It is an 18th century building sitting among 15th and 16th century structures. Since its construction in 1893, it has been the seat of the municipal government. Today, it houses the city administration.

The Town Hall, like its predecessor, a 15th century building, sits on Herrengasse in the Hauptplaz. Work began on this new structure in the 19th century. Originally, a neo-Classical structure stood on the site in 1803. Due to an increase in population and size of the city, the Town Hall required reconstruction later that same century. In 1893, the new Town Hall by the architects, Alexander Wielemans and Theodor Reuter,rose on the site. The structure features a clock, a dome and corner towers. The main façade received further alteration in 1922, 1953and in 1966 and 1967. Many statues vanished, their whereabouts unknown. Copies of the original statues above the main entrance, symbolizing the arts, crafts, science and trade, have since returned to their rightful place. Inside the Town Hall, you may admire the remains of the late 19th century décor and furnishings. These include a coffered ceiling.
