The art collection of the Landesmuseum Johanneum is an all-inclusive display of art. It covers everything from old religious icons to more modern work. However, since 1941, the work has changed locations. Originally, the Alte Galerie (Old Gallery) contained work covering the period of art from the Romanesque to the Baroque, inclusive. The Neue Galerie (New Gallery) focused on material from the 19th century onwards.

The Alte Galerie now sits within the ornate Schloss Eggenberg. It contains the ancient masters, including the Gothic religious material from Styrian churches. You can find paintings and sculpture from Kremser Schmidt , alias Martin Johann Schmidt. There is also work by Jan Brueghel, the Elder. Of particular interest is the Admont Madonna and work by a local - J.T. Stammel. The Neue Gallery, in the Rococo Admont Palace on Sackstrasse, contains modern work. It holds exhibitions featuring contemporary use of the art medium and media. There are changing thematic exhibits to view.
