If you happen to visit the early Baroque church of Mariahilf, you might want to spend time at the nearby Diocese museum. You can locate the Diözesianmuseum behind the Mariahilf church. It is in the cloisters of the Minorite Monastery part of the Minoritensaal or summer refectory executed by J. Carlone.

The Diocesan Museum is home to a marvelous collection of Baroque statuary. It also features many pieces of late Gothic art. The interior is itself a work of art. It features a monumental painting by J. B. Ruanacher tilted “Christ Feeding the Multitude” (1732). There is also a 15th century altarpiece from the city of Bad Aussee. On the altarpiece, you can see the depiction of the life and deeds of St. Leonard. These show a tonsured St. Leonard establishing an abbey and freeing people from the stocks. These are all part of a permanent exhibit – “Precious Styrian Churches.” The museum also holds three special exhibitions annually.
