The magnificent palace in Graz, Schloss Eggenberg, is more than just a pretty façade. It is home to three museums. Each of them addresses a different aspect of the history and heritage of Graz and its region. While in the Schloss, you can visit a Hunting Museum, an Archeological Museum and a Numismatic Museum.

The Hunting Museum, or Jagdmuseum, is an elaborate assortment of antique weapons of all types. There are also paintings and realistic dioramas. This is where the old Masters collection currently resides. The Archeological Museum (Abeilung für Vor-und Frühgschichte) focuses on the earliest history of the region. It contains various Styrian archeological finds. These include the 7th century B.C. Strettwegg Ritual Chariot. The Numismatic/Coin Museum (Münzensammlung) is on the ground floor of the Schloss Eggenberg. The coin collection started as the result of a 1911 donation by Archduke Johann. It now is Austria’s second largest collection of coins.
