Horn Hotels and Accommodation
The ancient town of Horn, Austria, was called the “Protestant Rome of the Waldviertel” (the name given to the northeastern part of Austria) during the Reformation. It was the base for a Protestant League of nobles who opposed the Habsburg Archduke (later emperor) Matthias. In the 17th century Piarist Church there is an exquisite altar piece by the great Austrian artist Martin Johann (Kremser) Schmidt. Visitors here can also see decorative carpentry with remarkable detail. The 16th century late Gothic Church of St. George is notable for its tower with four turrets. Nearby is the parish church of St. Stephen. It has a decorative pulpit from 1500, and 14th century cross-vaulting.

The Austrian painter and printmaker Paul Troger lived here for many years, and the abbey displays some of his work. The Abbey is also known for its marbled columns and grand marble staircase.
