The church of St. Martin is one of two churches in the small village of Gnadenwald in the Tyrol region. The two churches, St. Michael and St. Martin, actually, have much in common. They date from the same century, the 14th. They also started out in the same architectural style – Gothic, before modification set in.

St. Martin’s Church is in close affiliation with the Monastery of St. Martin. The monastery and the church grew up on the site of an old hunting lodge. The church dates from 1337. It began as a simple Gothic structure. As architectural tastes changed, the church received a makeover. It emerged as Baroque. While the exterior is Baroque, the interior remains essentially Gothic. Inside, you can admire the High Gothic ribbed vaulting. You should also look at the organ gallery as well as certain architectural features. The church retains the narrow windows and the buttress on the apse.
