If you wander north of the Inn River from which Innsbruck gets its name, you can pay a visit to the zoo. Take your family and spend some down time. It is a way to discover more about a country’s flora and fauna. It also allows both you and your children to have some fun.

The Alpine Zoo is on the slopes of the Bergisel. It is at around 727 meters above sea level. This creates not a single problem for the animals. The some 140 to 150 different animal species are Alpine creatures. They all come from the Alpine regions. This constitutes a rather unusual collection of around 2,000 animals. In fact, the Alpenzoo has some very rare and unique species mixed in with traditional fare. Within the confines of the Alpenzoo, you can view bears, bison, golden cockerel, Alpine ibex, bearded vulture and wolves. There are also Alpine birds, reptiles and fish. You can locate the fish in a coldwater not a tropical aquarium.
