The Alte Landhaus in Innsbruck, is now houses the provincial government. It is the seat of all provincial administrative work. It is also an architectural beauty. You can visit it if you walk over to Maria-Theresienstrasse.

The Alte Landhaus is by the prolific architect Georg Anton Gumpp. He was the architect for the city’s Landestheater and Spitalskirche. The Lanshaus is his most significant work. What is particularly impressive is the stairway. As you reach the second floor, you will see the 1728 statues by Nikolaus Moll. They include Diana and Apollo and Jupiter and Juno. Of particular interest is the Parliamentary Chamber. The Landtagssaal features wonderful 1734 frescoes of the Tyrolean landscape. The work emerges as an allegorical representation of the land being a gift from God to Meinhard II. The work is by Cosmas Damian Asam. The chapel is also the work of Gumpp. It has an altarpiece by Johann Georg Grasmayer on St. George (1732).
