If you wander away from the core of Innsbruck and up a hill, you will have the chance to visit a special museum. You can reach it by following a winding path amongst the woods. The Museum is on the Bergisel. Like so many specialist museums, this one has its own niche. The Bergisel-Kaiserjägermuseum is for battle history buffs.

The Bergisel Museum pays honor to soldiers. Its dedication is to all of the Tyrolean fighters in the wars. These include the Tyrolean Wars of Independence as well as the battles under the Hapsburg Emperors from 1816 until 1918. Two rooms within the museum pay tribute to the great Tyrolean hero, Andreas Hofer. There are weapons of the Independence fighters as well as paintings of significant battles and their officers. There are several paintings by Albin Egger-Liebz, Franz von Defregger and Felicia von Myrbach Franz. On the top two floors, you can find a treasure trove of black and white photographs as well as weapons dating from World War I.
