If you wish to take a train into the Tyrol, you will probably visit the Hauptbahnhof of Innsbruck. Trains are a common way to make your way around Austria. In general, the train service is fast and reliable. You can take the InterCity (IC) and EuroCity (EC) trains all across the country and over the borders. Depending upon your intent and destination, you can catch a slow Eilzug or Regionalzug train or a fast EC, IC, EuroNightLine, CityNightLine or InterCityExpress.
The Innsbruck Haufbahnhof or Main Train Station has service to and from Bolzano, Graz, Munich, Venice, Vienna and Zurich, to mention a few destinations. The station is near the town center. You can walk to the Triumphe-Pforte in between 15 and 20 minutes. As is usually the case with many stations located in or near downtown, transportation is easily accessible. The bus station is nearby. You can catch a taxi out front. If you want, you can stash your belongings in the 24-hour luggage storage. This allows you to wander into town unburdened. You can enjoy the sights and return to catch the next train.
