The area in and around Klagenfurt has more castles than any other place in the region of Carinthia. If you wish to visit castle ruins or see beautiful examples of different castle architectural styles, Kalgenfurt is the ideal place to spend some time. There is a wide variety of Castles or Schloss from which to select. One of the possibilities is Schloss Mageregg.

Mageregg Castel dates from 1590. Wolfgang Mager von Fuchsstadt is responsible for its early construction. Part of the original design included several moats and ponds. You can still see the remains on the eastern side of the structure. In 1607, the notorious Anna Neumann von Wasserleonburg purchased the castle. It became famous for her proclivity for marriage. Anna went through six husbands. In 1841, Domenico Venchiarutti of Gemoa, a master builder, undertook alterations for one Thomas von Muro. The last noteworthy change came under the ownership of the Carinthian Hunting Society. They took over the Castle in 1967. Now, it has a restaurant and a zoo as well as a large game reserve in the gardens.
