If you want to ski, Austria offers a wide variety of places from which to choose. Sometimes, however, you cannot beat the originals. Sankt Anton in Arlberg or St. Anton offers some of the best skiing for true experts in Austria. It is an old established resort. In fact, Sankt Anton is where skiing instruction first originated in 1907.

In Sankt Anton, Hannes Schneider first created the Arlberg method for downhill skiing. Another innovator, Stefan Kruckenhauser, created the wedeling technique. As a result, Sank Anton established the standards for all to ski resorts to come. The village still provides excellent instruction along with excellent skiing opportunities. It has some 260 km of ski runs. You can easily access them through the 88 lift. These come in all the varieties possible, including gondola, cable cars, a mountain railroad and high-speed quads. Take a trip up to the Valluga, the Galzig or the Brandkreuz. You might want to come during the week. Weekends tend to be busy in Sankt Anton.
