The Alps are famous for many different things. They are best known, however, for their sports. You can ski, snowboard and snowshoe in eh winter. During the summer, you can hike, trek or ride your bike along steep mountain trails and through lush valleys. Yet there is another reason to come to the Alps. In the Tyrol region, you can admire the bountiful growth carpeting the mountainsides and thriving in the dips and crevices.
One way to discover, fully, the many types of flowers and plants is to visit the Alpengarten (Alpine Garden) near Bad Aussee. Not too far from this town, you can catch a substantial glimpse of a snowless Alpine world. The Alpengarten is 1,200 square meters of floral loveliness. Within this area, you can discover over 2,500 species of flora. These include a wide variety of indigenous plants and shrubs. Only those plants native to the Alps are included in this abundant display of flowers and greenery
