John Michael Prunner is a prolific master builder in the city of Linz. Although not the architect, he was responsible for the superb Baroque construction of the Seminarkirche or Church of the Teutonic Knights in this city. Construction began ion the Karmelitekirche of St. Joseph in 1674 but the building did not reach completion until 1726. Prunner is responsible for its facade.

The Karmeliterkiche or Carmelite Church took as its model St. Joseph’s Church (Josefkirche) in Prague. Stuccowork is by Diego Francesco Carlone and Paolo d’ Allio. The main altarpiece is of the Holy Family. The artist of this painting is Martino Altomonte. Another altarpiece, a depiction of St. Anne, is by Carlo Carlone. There are also paintings in the church by Carl von Reslfeld and J. A. Wolf. The pulpit dates from 1717. On the altar table, be sure to notice the glass coffin of St. Felix. You can also sometimes find interesting exhibits in the crypt in the church.
