The Minoritechurch in Linz has undergone several changes in architecture and ownership over the centuries. The twin nave structure began life as a Gothic-Romanesque structure in 1236. It was, at that time, the property of the Minor Friars. During the religious shake-up, the Minorite Friars loss possession. They regained it in the 17th century. The result was a remodeling or revamping of the church.

Johann Matthias Krinner finished construction of the now Baroque church in 1751. Although it incorporates the 13th century monastery, the actual church is Baroque in design and character. The twin naves are gone, replaced by a single-nave. The stuccowork reflects the architectural period. Kaspar Modler decorates in pink, white and yellow. The high altar is superb. Above it, you can clearly see the Annunication painted by Bartolomeo Altomonte. Kresmer (aka Martin Johann) Schmidt created four paintings for the church side altars. They commemorate the mystical powers attributed to the Franciscan monks. In particular, they take note of Joseph Copertino, an obscure Saint. After the church, you can wander over to the monastery, now the home of the Upper Austrian Provincial Government.
