In 1748, a landmark church rose up at the top of the Pöstlingberg. The design plans were by Matthias Krinner, a master builder and architect in Linz. Krinner is responsible for both the Ursuline church and the church of the Minorite Monastery. This, unlike the other two religious edifices became a pilgrimage church.

The church sits on the site of a miraculous. Prince Gundomer von Starhemberg recovered unexpectedly from a severe illness. Ignaz Jobst had marked the sight of the miracle with a specific religious icon. In 1964, the church evolved into a Basilica, the Wallfahrtsbasilika, under Pope Paul VI. Inside, you can see a fresco by Andreas Groll. It is the Virgin and dates from the 1700s. If you do make the trip up the hill, watch your timing. Today, it is a favourite site for marriages. The position of the church on the high heights makes it ideal for weddings.
