Many people come to Austria to ski; others arrive to admire their castles. If you like fairy-tale castles, visit Anif. Anif Castle or Wasserschloß Anif, is a romantic, English-style, neo-Gothic castle in the small community of Anif. It is not too far from Salzburg or Hellbrun Castle. Yet, this castle has an appeal extending beyond is initial appearance. It is an absolute must to see if you are a fan of one of the all time popular movies set in Austria: “The Sound of Music. “ Anif Castle appears in scenes in both this and another well-known film, the Odessa File.”

Schloss Anif is a water castle. It sits on the water surrounded by woodland. Originally, the summer estate of the Salzburg rulers, it later became home to the Chiemsee Bishops. In 1918, the last King of Bavaria, Ludwig III, signed his abdication within its halls. Now the property of the Johannes Moy family, it is private property. You cannot enter the castle, but you can admire the rectangular turret and enjoy the setting while humming showtunes.
