If you are a fan of Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Salzburg provides you with a golden opportunity to take a glimpse into the composer’s life. In the city, there are several places to work into your schedule. There is the Mozarteum, where concerts take place. There is the residence on Marketplatz, the ‘Tanzmeisterhaus’. There is, above all, his birthplace.

Mozart arrived in the world on the third floor of a house on Getreidegasse. The date was January 27, 1756. He lived here for the first 17-years of his life. You can visit this house. It is now a museum to his life and work. The International Mozart Foundation (Mozarteum), helped to establish the museum here in 1880. The pilgrims to this home can see family portraits and other memorabilia. You can view an exhibit of his early musical instruments. These include his clavichord, pianoforte and violin. The museum also examines the composer’s connection to the University as well as his relationship to and with Salzburg’s top social and political characters. You can also see the apartment as it was during his lifetime. To further round out the portrait of Mozart, there is a look at the history of the theatrical staging of Mozart’s operas.
