The collection of modern art in Salzburg is extensive. There are several museums who house work by 20th century artists. You can visit several places to see exhibitions on specific artists. Among the most frequented museums is the Rupertinum. It is the major repository in Salzburg of modern art.

The Museum of Modern Art Rupertinum is on Wiener Philharmoniker Gasse. The original structure holding the exhibits dates from the period spanning several centuries, the 14th to the 17th century. The building remained an active seminary until the late 1900s. The museum has both temporary and permanent exhibits on hand for visitors to admire and puzzle over. The focus is always on modern paintings and graphic art from the 20th century. This encompasses not only painting and sculpture but also photography. Within these time constraints there is considerable attention paid to the two inter-war periods. Focus is also maintained upon, although not restricted to, works following the Second World War. This includes both International and Austrian artists.
