Salzburg has a number of magnificent museums. They appeal to many different tastes. For those who are interested in the natural world, there is the Haus de Natur or Natural History Museum. You can locate it in the former home of the Ursuline Nuns.

The former convent has extensive space for exhibits. There are some 90 rooms and five-floors of natural wonders. The museum displays a great variety of fauna. It does not restrict itself to local species, but embraces creatures from around the world. The approach is a thematic one. There are sections specifically dealing with sea beings – Sea World. This section boasts humungous aquariums replicating life in the Mediterranean and elsewhere. There is a Reptile’s Zoo with 33 terrariums. You can see the creatures from the past in a Jurassic-type world. There is a section exploring the world of humans and animals in myths and Fairy Tales. Be sure not to miss the sections on forest animals and the cosmos. Amidst the live exhibits, you can also explore the unknown worlds of space, technology and geology.
