Of the six general universities in Austria, Salzburg ‘s Paris-Lodron University Salzburg is among the smallest. It has an enrolment of approximately 6,000 students. The University has several faculties. It has the Faculty of Catholic Theology, Faculty of Law, Faculty of Cultural & Social Sciences, Faculty of Natural Sciences as well as Inter-faculty departments

The University has been insistence since 1622. It did not, gain recognition however, until the 17th and 18th century. Under the Hapsburgs, it gained in fame and prestige. Recognition and establishment as a modern university came after the cessation of hostilities in WW II. It attracts students form around the globe to attend, in particular, its multidisciplinary approach in the Department of International Relations and Political Science. It looks at such things as crisis solving in international conflict and developmental issues of the 21st century. Focus in this course of study is on how developmental problems arise and the interrelationship among the various causal factors i.e. social, political and economic factors.
