The Weitmoserschlössl Castle is a relic from the area’s economic past. It dates from a time when gold and silver mining made the town rich, attracting and creating wealthy individuals. It stems from the desire of a merchant, Christopher Weitmoser, to recreate the original premises in the style common to the larger center of Salzburg.

The Castle is late Gothic in design. It sits on the site of a previous structure, the fire-demolished Goldeckerhof. The rebuilt structure of 1554 incorporates much of the earlier building in the northern portion. The Castle remained in the Weitmoser family until 1604. Financial problems drove them to sell. Another merchant purchased the Castle, remodelling it to suit his needs. It remained in the hands of George Leykofer until 1752. The Scharfetter family acquired it at this point. They currently live there while running it as a guesthouse café and restaurant. It sits amidst a wide clearing, indications of the massive removal of woods to feed the local smelting plants.
