The small village of Dorfgastein is a place with numbers but no street names. It does have a couple of attractions worth wandering into town to admire. Like so many small villages, it has a small, but graceful church. This is the Pfarrkirche or Parish Church.

The Parish Church of the Holy Rupert and Vergil is one of the first sights you see in the town. Its white steeple cuts up above the rest of the village, acting as a beacon to the surrounding countryside. The simple church dates from 1350. The Gothic edifice, however, became the subject of a Baroque reconstruction or adaptation in the 18th century. Today, it is beginning to regain some of its lost earlier Gothic stylistic elements. The community is carefully restoring the entire building, combining both the necessary modern characteristics with earlier Gothic ones. The High Altar, for example is a reconstruction of the earlier Gothic altar. If you are looking for the best time to attend this church, consider coming for the Harvest Festival
