Along with Johann Strauss, Joseph Haydn and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart, Vienna was once home to Ludwig von Beethoven. He lived in some 30 different places throughout the city. One of the homes, he returned to stay twice. This was the Pasqualatihaus (Pasqualati House). He took up residence from 1804 to 1808 and from 1810 to 1815.

The Pasqualati house is a late 18th century structure (1797). It has a narrow and twisting stairway. There is also an interesting view from the windows. In this house, Beethoven sat and composed some of his most famous works. It is here he wrote the 4th 5th 7th and 8th symphonies. His only opera, Fidelio, he composed within the four walls of this house. He also had time enough to write his 4th piano concerto. The museum in the Pasqualati house provides a visitor a small glimpse of this world of Beethoven. It is a small commemorative museum. Of particular interest is the bust of Beethoven by Klein and the prints indicating what Beethoven would have seen when he looked out his windows.
